IU question leak: 3 teachers suspended, student expelled

The authorities of the Islamic University (UTU) in Kushtia today suspended five employees, including three teachers, expelled one student and canceled the admission of 140 other students on .

The suspended professors are: Mizanur Rahman, Associate Professor and President and Nurul Islam, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, and Altaf Hossain Russel, Assistant Professor and Chair of the Department of Statistics.

The authorities banned Mizanur Rahman and Altaf Hossain Russel from participating in all academic activities for two years and issued a show cause notice against them, the registrar also said.

The other two are third-class employees – Alauddin and Saiful Islam, the registrar added.

Monojit Kumar, a student of the mathematics department, was expelled from the university.

A new admission test will be held as the authorities have canceled the admission of 140 students to the exam.

The authorities made the decision following an investigation concluding that a teacher, an administrative officer and three employees were involved in the leaked paper question for the first year admission test of F unit The 2016-2017 session at the university, said Proctor Mahbubar Rahman, one of the committee members.

A three-member UI committee submitted the report on Saturday.

The interim registrar then declared the chairman and secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League Unit IU Saiful Islam and Amit Kumar alleged in writing to the academic authority on the leaked paper issue for the test of " Year Admission of Unit "F" held last December.

The university authorities have formed a three – member probe body led by Prof. Mustafa Kamal of the Department of Mathematics to examine the allegation.
