Terming Bangladesh is a reliable partner of his country, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has highly appreciated the improvement of bilateral relations between the two countries since the official visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Moscow in 2013.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali held formal talks with his Russian counterpart in Moscow in the morning. He has witnessed the signing of two protocols of cooperation with Russia on cooperation in the field of mass communications.
Mahmood urged the Russian minister to consider resuming the Bangla service of Radio Moscow, according to a message received here.
This was the first official visit of a foreign minister from Bangladesh to Russia at the invitation of the Russian FM since the USSR recognized Bangladesh as a country Independent in January 1972.
The visit also coincided with 45 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Lavrov expressed his happiness to the increase in two – way trade which reached 1.5 billion dollars in 2015-2016 and wished bilateral economic cooperation to be further intensified in the future.
Mahmood handed a letter from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Lavrov. Hasina in the letter addressed to his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, invited him to visit Bangladesh.
The Minister of Bangladesh sought Lavrov 's support for free and quota – free access of Bangladesh' s products to the Russian market, as well as to the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union headed by Russia.
The two ministers discussed regional issues of common interest, including the situation regarding Muslims Rohingya of Myanmar.
Later Mahmood visited the Russian Ministry of Telecommunications and Mass Communications and met with Minister Nikolai A Nikiforov.
