Bangladesh parliament shocked at loss of lives in hillslides

Parliament expressed a profound shock to the loss of lives, including those of four army men in the hilly districts of Chittagong, Rangamati and Bandarban.

At the beginning of the session today, President Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury informed Parliament that the last two days of rains have triggered a series of landslides in rugged areas, including Chittagong .

She added that four engaged army members were also victims of the landslide during the rescue operation. "They were working there to save the victims, but a new landslide buried them."

President Shirin Sharmin expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved families of the victims and to those who suffered injuries. She also prayed for the salvation of the lost souls.
