Venezuela sets caps on gasoline purchases

Venezuela has set limits on gasoline sales in the west of the country to reduce smuggling that it attributes to the shortage of supplies in recent days.

Passenger cars were limited to a maximum of 30 liters and trucks to 35, says a statement from the Ministry of Oil, without specifying a deadline for the limit.

Venezuela, which has the largest proven reserves of crude oil in the world, heavily subsidizes its gasoline prices, which makes smuggling to neighboring Colombia a big deal.
