Qatar central bank investigating effort to manipulate riyal

Qatar's central bank announced Tuesday that it had opened a judicial inquiry into attempts to harm the Qatari economy by manipulating the currency, securities and derivatives markets.

"We know that the blocking countries and their agents are trying to manipulate and undermine our currency, our securities and derivatives, as part of a coordinated strategy aimed at harming the economy of Qatar," said the governor of the central bank, Sheikh Abdullah bin Saud al-Thani.

"We will not stay there while our country is attacked in this way." Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt imposed an economic boycott in Qatar in June, accusing it of supporting terrorism, which it denies.
