Biman Bangladesh Airlines recorded a gross profit of Tk 151 crore for the fiscal year 2016-2017, making it the third consecutive year that the national carrier has been in the dark.
After offsetting the default tax, net profit rose to 47 crore Tk, said an airline press release. He contributed Tk 381 crore to the national chessboard.
Biman reported a profit of 276 billion crowns as a profit for the 2015-2016 fiscal year and 324 million crowns for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
During the last fiscal year, Biman carried a total of 23.51 lakh passengers, up 1.42% from one year to the next. It also shipped 33,542 tonnes of goods, down 18.05% from the previous year.
The ban on direct freight to London was attributed to the collapse of freight traffic.
Biman now operates 10 large and two narrow hull aircraft updated and upgraded to 15 international destinations and seven domestic destinations. Four modern Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners are expected to join the Biman fleet over the next two years.
